The Language Center of UNM offers Indonesian Language Course for Speakers of Other Languages; widely known as BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing) which provides access for anyone who are interested in learning Bahasa Indonesia. The curriculum is designed from very basic levels that offer greater chances for foreigners who are eager to study the language even without any previous knowledge about Bahasa Indonesia.
The BIPA program is divided into 9 (nine) levels. Students will have an understanding of language skills of Indonesian language including speaking, listening, reading and grammar as well as the distinctive and various cultures of Indonesia. They are also prepared to practice Indonesian language for academic purposes. The duration of the BIPA program is approximately 10 (ten) months. Upon completion, successful students will receive certificates from UNM Language Center to certify their competence in mastering Indonesian language.
Pusat Bahasa UNM offers two types of learning system: ONE-TO-ONE  and GROUP Tutorial.  Applicant may indicate what type of tutorial she/he wishes to undertake during their study. Applicant wishing to apply, please see admission requirements and procedures.

Basic Requirement

To be qualified to attend BIPA Program, the applicant must graduate from (at least) High School level or equivalent, shown by their Diploma.

Application Procedures

1. International Students Living AbroadTo study at BIPA Program, the applicant needs a STUDY PERMIT.
(a). STUDY PERMIT FOR 12 MONTHSThis permit is given to the Applicant who is willing to learn at BIPA Program for 2-3 terms (with LIMITED STAY PERMIT FOR STUDENT VISA)
This visa is given to the Applicant who is willing to learn at BIPA Program for 1 term (with VISIT VISA FOR SOCIO-CULTURAL)
To apply for Study Permit, the Applicant must send these following documents to Pusat Bahasa UNM or International Office of UNM via post or email.
Document needed to apply study permit:
  1. Study Permit Application Form
  2. Application Form
  3. Applicant’s Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  4. Colored Copied of the Applicant’s Diploma, Transcript, and Academic Certificate
  5. Colored copied of the Applicant’s valid passport (minimum valid date 18 months when applying for Student Visa)
  6. One recent photograph (3×4 cm), 3 recent photograph (4×6 cm)
  7. Statement from either hospital or physician stating that the applicant is physically and mentally healthy (minimum valid 3 months before the class starts)
  8. A letter from Indonesian Embassy in applicant’s country or from applicant’s embassy in Indonesia stating the applicant’s nationality and willingness to learn at BIPA Program, Pusat Bahasa UNM
  9. A letter from the applicant’s sponsor(s) stating their responsibilities to afford all the applicant’s expenses during their study (Account Balance Certificate and Family Register)
  10. A letter stating the applicant’s willingness to obey the Indonesian law
  11. A letter stating the applicant’s willingness to obey the BIPA Program’s terms and condition
Pusat Bahasa UNM through International Office will forward the application to the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Tertiary Education (RISTEKDIKTI) to issue a Study Permit Letter approval.
Pusat Bahasa UNM can cancel the application if the Applicant fails to get study permit letter from the Indonesian Ministry of Education.
2. International Students Living in Indonesia
KITAS holder or Visit Visa holder can apply directly to BIPA Program by bringing these documents:
  1. Applicant’s Form
  2. Copy of the Applicant’s Diploma, Transcript, and Academic Certificate
  3. Applicant’s  passport and KITAS/Visa
  4. One recent photograph (3×4)
